Great Western Garment Company (GWG), was founded in 1911 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada by Charles Graham and Alexander Rutherford. GWG was known for their denim and western wear. Levi's Strauss acquired 75% of GWG in 1961, and by 1972, Levi's Strauss had full ownership. Great Western Garment Company changed its name to GWG Limited in 1971. The last GWG factory closed in 2004 along with all Levi's factories in North America.
